Director of Editorial and Programming
Position Summary
The Director of Editorial and Programming leads content strategy, audience engagement, and educational programming across platforms owned by Center for Broadcast Journalism and Power 104.7 FM. This role oversees editorial production, contributor coordination, social media publishing, journalism education initiatives, community engagement, and organizational programming. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller, organizer, and leader who is passionate about local journalism, community impact, and developing the next generation of media professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership
Manage editorial calendars and content planning.
Coordinate and publish stories from contributors across digital platforms.
Produce and edit 2–3 original stories per week, including at least one East Side community-focused story.
Ensure content aligns with organizational mission, editorial standards, and audience needs.
Collaborate with leadership on special reporting projects and multimedia storytelling initiatives.
Audience Development & Digital Engagement
Monitor audience growth and engagement metrics across platforms.
Develop strategies to increase reach, community participation, and audience loyalty.
Manage social media publishing, including stories from contributors and clips from radio programs.
Identify trends and opportunities to expand digital distribution and community impact.
Programming & Events
Plan and execute organizational events, workshops, community forums, and public programming.
Coordinate logistics, communications, and promotion for events.
Support partnerships that strengthen community engagement and audience growth.
Journalism Education
Teach journalism fundamentals and media literacy curriculum.
Support youth media training programs and workforce development initiatives.
Mentor students, contributors, and emerging journalists.
Assist with curriculum development and educational programming.
Organizational Leadership
Partner with the Vice President of Editorial and Programming on strategic planning and execution.
Prepare meeting agendas based on organizational priorities and leadership input.
Participate in leadership meetings and lead assigned portions of meetings.
Track project progress and ensure timely completion of editorial and programmatic goals.
Support organizational planning, reporting, and evaluation efforts.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in journalism, communications, media, education, or a related field.
Experience in journalism, media production, audience engagement, or nonprofit programming.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Experience managing social media and digital publishing platforms.
Ability to lead projects, manage multiple priorities, and work independently.
Passion for community-centered journalism and developing future media leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching, mentoring, or facilitating educational programs.
Knowledge of audience analytics and digital growth strategies.
Experience planning events and community engagement initiatives.
Familiarity with radio, podcasting, video production, or multimedia storytelling.
Reporting Relationship & Compensation
Reports to the Vice President of Editorial and Programming.
Salary is $75,000 for full-time employment. Work hours are Monday-Thursday with half days on Fridays and some weekends for company events (7th Street Live, youth programming).
